Queen Camilla embarked on a significant solo engagement, journeying to The Royal Lancers Regiment in Catterick, England, on Monday. This marked her inaugural visit to the Regiment since assuming the role of their colonel in chief. The occasion held deep sentimental significance as her father, Major Bruce Shand MC & Bar, had served with the 12th Lancers during World War II.

For this special outing, Queen Camilla’s attire paid tribute to the Lancers Regiment. She wore a Fiona Clare dress inspired by the Regiment’s uniform, featuring chain mail accents on the shoulders, a striking red collar, and ornate gold buttons. Completing her ensemble were knee-high black suede boots from Russell & Bromley and a hat crafted by Philip Treacy.

Adding to the significance of her outfit was a notable accessory: Queen Elizabeth II’s regimental brooch, adorned with the skull and crossbones emblem, borrowed from the late monarch’s personal collection. This wasn’t the first time Queen Camilla had honored Queen Elizabeth II by wearing her jewelry; she had previously adorned herself with the monarch’s Cartier sapphire and diamond flower brooches during the Royal Maundy Service and wore an aquamarine bar brooch for the New Year’s Eve service at Sandringham.

King Charles, meanwhile, continues to undergo treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

Queen Camilla’s gestures towards the longest-reigning monarch have become a poignant aspect of her royal wardrobe. While she has an affinity for Fiona Clare’s designs, her subtle tributes to Queen Elizabeth II through jewelry imbue her ensembles with added sentimentality. With her visit to The Royal Lancers Regiment, Queen Camilla seamlessly blended sartorial homage with the occasion’s military significance.
