Catherine Bell is an English-Iranian-American actress, best known for her role as Lieutenant Colonel Sarah MacKenzie in the television series JAG and as Denise Sherwood in the drama series Army Wives. She was born on August 14, 1968 in London, England. Bell’s father is of Scottish and Iranian descent, and her mother is of Iranian and Polish ancestry. Growing up, she traveled extensively due to her parents’ jobs, living in countries such as Iran and the United Kingdom before settling in California, United States. Bell began her career as a model, working in Japan and eventually appearing in various advertisements. She later transitioned into acting, making her television debut in the TV movie Mother of the Bride in 1993. This was followed by several guest roles in popular shows such as Dream On and Friends. It was in 1997 that Bell landed her breakthrough role as Lieutenant Colonel Sarah MacKenzie in the military legal drama series JAG. Her portrayal of a strong and confident lawyer garnered her critical acclaim and a loyal fan base. She continued to star in the show until its conclusion in 2005. After JAG, Bell went on to star as Denise Sherwood in Army Wives, a role that showcased her versatility as an actress.
