Connie Mack, whose real name was Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy, was an American baseball player, manager, and team owner. He was born on December 22, 1862, in Massachusetts. He is best known for his tenure as the manager and owner of the Philadelphia Athletics in the early 20th century. Mack began his baseball career as a player, making his major league debut in 1886 for the Washington Nationals. Mack became the player-manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1894 and later took over the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901.
