Dovima, whose real name was Dorothy Virginia Margaret Juba, was an iconic American fashion model of the 1950s and 1960s. Born on December 11, 1927, in New York City, Dovima quickly rose to fame for her slender figure, graceful poses, and distinctive features. She began her modeling career in the early 1950s when she was discovered by a Vogue magazine editor on a New York City street. Dovima’s unique beauty and elegance captivated the fashion industry, and she soon became one of the most sought-after models of her time. Dovima gained worldwide recognition through her collaborations with renowned fashion photographer Richard Avedon. Their famous photo shoots, often in exotic locations, created iconic images that continue to inspire the fashion world today. One of their most celebrated collaborations was the unforgettable Dovima with Elephants photograph, which became an emblem of sophistication and high fashion. Throughout her career, Dovima worked with esteemed fashion designers such as Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Givenchy, becoming a muse for many of them. She dominated the catwalks of Paris and New York, showcasing their couture creations with poise and charm. Beyond her successful modeling career, Dovima also ventured into acting.
