Harvey Keitel is an American actor known for his intense and versatile performances in both mainstream and independent films. He was born on May 13, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, to a Romanian-Jewish immigrant family. Keitel began his acting career in the early 1960s, studying at the Actors Studio under renowned acting coach Lee Strasberg. He initially appeared in various stage productions before transitioning to the screen. Keitel gained prominence in the 1970s for his roles in Martin Scorsese’s films, including Mean Streets (1973) and Taxi Driver (1976).
