Biography
Ingrid Bergman was a Swedish actress who became one of the most acclaimed and beloved Hollywood stars of the 1940s and 1950s. She was born on August 29, 1915, in Stockholm, Sweden. Bergman had always been interested in acting, and she made her film debut in a Swedish drama called Munkbrogreven in 1934. Her talent quickly gained recognition, and she went on to star in several successful Swedish films. In 1939, Hollywood took notice of Bergman’s charisma and beauty, and she was offered a contract by producer David O. Selznick. This marked the beginning of her international career. Her breakthrough role came in the 1942 film Casablanca, where she starred opposite Humphrey Bogart, earning her widespread acclaim and establishing her as a leading lady. Bergman went on to star in numerous highly regarded films, including Gaslight (1944), for which she won her first Academy Award for Best Actress, Notorious (1946), and Anastasia (1956), which earned her a second Academy Award. She was involved in a highly publicized affair with Italian director Roberto Rossellini, which resulted in her being denounced by the American public and temporarily banished from Hollywood.
