Joaquin Phoenix, born on October 28, 1974, is an American actor, producer, environmental activist, and music video director. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and comes from a family of entertainers, with his parents being children of missionaries who worked as performers. Joaquin and his four siblings grew up in a unique and unconventional environment, as their parents traveled through South America with the religious group Children of God. Phoenix’s family eventually settled in Los Angeles, California, where they changed their last name from Bottom to Phoenix, symbolizing their new beginning. Joaquin began his acting career alongside his brother River Phoenix, who tragically passed away in 1993. Despite the tragic loss, Joaquin remained driven and continued to pursue his acting ambitions. His breakthrough role came in 2000 when he portrayed the iconic Roman Emperor Commodus in the historical epic film Gladiator. This performance earned him critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
