Kelis Rogers, professionally known as Kelis, is an American singer-songwriter, chef, and fashion designer. Born on August 21, 1979, in Harlem, New York, Kelis rose to fame in the late 1990s with her debut album Kaleidoscope. From a young age, Kelis showed a passion for music and the arts. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she honed her vocal skills and developed her unique style. Her powerful voice and distinctive fashion choices quickly caught the attention of music executives. In 1999, Kelis released her breakthrough single Caught out There, which became an instant hit and showcased her soulful R&B sound with a hint of hip-hop influences. Her debut album, Kaleidoscope, followed shortly after and received critical acclaim for its experimental approach, combining various genres like R&B, hip-hop, and electronic music. Kelis’ success continued with her sophomore album, Wanderland, released in 2001. It featured the popular singles Young, Fresh N’ New and Trick Me, further establishing her as a prominent figure in the music industry. Throughout her career, Kelis has collaborated with several notable artists, including Pharrell Williams, Andre 3000, and Nas (whom she was married to from 2005 to 2010). Apart from her musical endeavors, Kelis has explored other creative passions. She attended Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and became a certified chef. In 2015, she released her first cookbook, My Life on a Plate, showcasing her diverse cooking skills and unique recipes. In recent years, Kelis has continued to release music independently, exploring different genres and experimenting with her sound.
