Lauren Bacall, born as Betty Joan Perske on September 16, 1924, in the Bronx, New York, was an iconic American actress and singer. She is known for her distinctive sultry voice and her mysterious, smoldering beauty, which captivated audiences around the world during Hollywood’s golden age. Bacall’s journey into stardom began when she was just a teenager. While studying acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she caught the attention of director Howard Hawks, who cast her alongside Humphrey Bogart in her first film, To Have and Have Not (1944). The chemistry between Bacall and Bogart was palpable, leading to a steamy on-screen romance that quickly translated into a real-life love affair. The couple’s undeniable chemistry was furthered in subsequent films such as The Big Sleep (1946) and Key Largo (1948). Bacall’s trademark look, characterized by her sultry gaze and the way she lowered her head to look up, became an iconic image of the era and secured her status as a Hollywood legend. Throughout her career, Bacall worked with acclaimed directors such as John Huston in The African Queen (1951) and Vincente Minnelli in The Cobweb (1955).
