Marie Laforet, born Maitena Doumenach, was a French singer and actress. She was born on October 5, 1939, in Soulac-sur-Mer, France. Laforet developed an interest in singing at a young age and started her career in the 1960s. Her breakthrough came in 1963 when she released the popular hit single Les Vendanges de l’Amour, which catapulted her to fame in France. This was followed by several other successful songs, such as Viens sur la Montagne and Il a neige sur Yesterday. Laforet’s unique voice and versatile singing style earned her a dedicated fan base both in France and internationally. She experimented with various musical genres, including pop, folk, and chanson, and collaborated with renowned songwriters and composers. Besides her successful music career, Laforet also ventured into acting. She starred in numerous French films, establishing herself as a talented actress. One of her notable appearances was in the 1967 film Marie-Chantal contre le Docteur Kha, directed by Claude Chabrol. Laforet continued to release albums and perform throughout the 1970s, impressing audiences with her soulful voice and artistic expressions. However, she gradually reduced her public appearances and focused more on her personal life and family. Despite stepping away from the limelight, Laforet’s influence and legacy in the French music and film industry remain significant.
