Biography

Mirko Filipovic, popularly known as Cro Cop, is a former professional mixed martial artist and kickboxer. He was born on September 10, 1974, in Vinkovci, Croatia. Cro Cop began his martial arts journey early on, engaging in various combat sports such as boxing, Muay Thai, and Karate. He established an impressive career in kickboxing, with a record of 40 wins, 10 losses, and 1 draw, earning him the prestigious K-1 World Grand Prix championship in 2012. In 2001, Cro Cop transitioned to mixed martial arts (MMA). He quickly gained recognition for his powerful strikes, especially his signature left high kick. Competing in multiple organizations such as Pride Fighting Championships, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and Bellator MMA, Cro Cop faced some of the toughest opponents in the world. Throughout his MMA journey, Cro Cop achieved numerous milestones. He became the first and only fighter to win both the K-1 World Grand Prix and Pride Open Weight Grand Prix championships. His remarkable knockout victories over famous fighters, including Wanderlei Silva and Josh Barnett, solidified his status as one of the most feared strikers in the sport. Cro Cop’s fighting spirit and relentless determination gained him a massive fan base worldwide. He was revered for his humble demeanor outside the ring and his fierce competitiveness inside it. His dedication and hard work paid off when he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018, highlighting his contributions to the sport. In addition to his fighting career, Cro Cop has dabbled in other ventures. He has acted in movies and TV shows and even served as a member of the Croatian Parliament. However, his love for combat sports remained unbroken, and he came out of retirement several times to continue competing. Although Cro Cop officially retired from professional fighting in 2020, he left an indelible mark on the MMA and kickboxing world and will forever be remembered as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time. His legacy lives on, inspiring future generations of fighters to push their limits and strive for greatness.
