Biography

Ringo Starr, born as Richard Starkey Jr., is an English musician, singer, and songwriter, widely known as the drummer for the legendary rock band, The Beatles. He was born on July 7, 1940, in Liverpool, England. Starr developed a passion for music from a young age, and at the age of 13, he received a drum kit as a gift. This gift marked the beginning of his musical journey, as he formed his first band, The Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group, shortly after. In 1962, Starr joined The Beatles, replacing their original drummer, Pete Best. With his unique drumming style and infectious energy, Starr contributed immensely to the band’s success. He played a vital role in shaping The Beatles’ sound and became an integral part of the iconic quartet. Throughout his career with The Beatles, Starr not only played the drums but also showcased his vocal talents on several songs, including Yellow Submarine, With a Little Help from My Friends, and Octopus’s Garden. His pleasant voice and down-to-earth personality resonated with fans worldwide. After the band’s breakup in 1970, Starr embarked on a successful solo career, releasing numerous albums that showcased his versatility as an artist. Some of his notable hits include Photograph, It Don’t Come Easy, and Back Off Boogaloo. Aside from his music career, Starr has also dabbled in acting, with appearances in films like Caveman, The Magic Christian, and That’ll Be the Day. He has also actively supported various charitable causes, including his involvement in the fight against AIDS. In 1988, Ringo Starr was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Beatles, and he received a solo induction in 2015.
