Biography
Sade, whose full name is Helen Folasade Adu, is a British-Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. Born on January 16, 1959, in Ibadan, Nigeria, Sade moved to London with her mother at the age of four. In the early 1980s, Sade formed the band that would later be called Sade alongside Stuart Matthewman, Paul Denman, and Andrew Hale. Their unique blend of R&B, soul, and jazz quickly gained popularity, and they released their debut album Diamond Life in 1984. The album, including the hit singles Smooth Operator and Your Love Is King, propelled Sade and her band to international fame. Over the years, Sade continued to release successful albums, such as Promise (1985), Stronger Than Pride (1988), and Love Deluxe (1992). Her smooth, sultry vocals and heartfelt lyrics resonated with audiences, earning her critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards. Despite her success, Sade remains a private and enigmatic figure. She has taken breaks from the music industry, occasionally resurfacing with new albums and captivating fans again. Her distinct fashion style, characterized by her trademark hoop earrings and chic yet effortlessly cool outfits, has also become iconic. Beyond her music career, Sade has ventured into acting. She made her debut in the film Absolute Beginners in 1986 and later appeared in the film A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries in 1998.
