Taraji P. Henson is an American actress, singer, and author, who has achieved great success in both film and television. She was born on September 11, 1970, in Washington, D.C. Henson’s passion for acting began at a young age, and she pursued her dreams by attending Howard University, where she studied theater. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting and quickly made a name for herself in the industry. Henson gained significant recognition for her role as Yvette in the film Baby Boy in 2001, which earned her critical acclaim. Her breakthrough role came in 2005 when she portrayed Shug in the hit film Hustle & Flow, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. However, it was her role as Cookie Lyon in the television series Empire that truly catapulted Henson to superstardom. Her portrayal of the fierce and outspoken matriarch of the Lyon family earned her numerous awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Drama.
