Biography
Visage, whose real name is Laurence Peter Wyatt, is an English musician, singer, and songwriter. Born on April 30, 1960, in Buckinghamshire, England, Visage rose to fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a key figure in the New Romantic movement. Visage started his musical career as a drummer for various local bands before forming his own group called Visage. The band’s lineup included renowned musicians such as Rusty Egan, Billy Currie, and Midge Ure. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1980, was a massive success and included the iconic hit single Fade to Grey. The song became an international hit and solidified Visage’s status as one of the leading bands of the New Romantic era. Throughout his career, Visage continued to release successful albums such as The Anvil (1982) and Beat Boy (1984). Their music was characterized by its synth-pop sound, atmospheric melodies, and Visage’s distinctive baritone vocals. Their incorporation of avant-garde fashion and extravagant visuals also played a significant role in defining the New Romantic aesthetic.
