Biography
Imran Khan is a Pakistani politician, former cricketer, and philanthropist. He was born on October 5, 1952, in Lahore, Pakistan. Imran came from a privileged background, as his father was a wealthy engineer. He attended Aitchison College in Lahore and later went on to study economics and politics at Keble College, Oxford. Imran Khan rose to fame as a cricketer, representing Pakistan in international matches from 1971 to 1992. He was known for his exceptional bowling skills and strong leadership on the field. Khan played a crucial role in Pakistan’s 1992 Cricket World Cup victory, leading the team as captain and becoming a national hero in the process. Following his retirement from cricket, Imran Khan transitioned into the world of politics. In 1996, he founded the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with the aim of creating a corruption-free Pakistan and advocating for social justice. Despite facing initial setbacks, Khan’s party gained traction over the years and finally achieved a significant victory in the 2018 general elections, with PTI forming the government in Pakistan. As a politician, Imran Khan has focused on several key issues, including poverty alleviation, educational reforms, and health care improvements. He implemented various initiatives to address these challenges, such as the Ehsaas Program, which aims to uplift impoverished communities, and the Naya Pakistan Housing Program, which aims to provide affordable housing for low-income families. Aside from his political career, Imran Khan is also actively involved in philanthropy. He established the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Lahore, named after his mother, to provide state-of-the-art cancer treatment to those who cannot afford it. He also founded Namal University in Mianwali, which focuses on promoting education and research in rural areas. Imran Khan’s dedication to his country and his relentless pursuit of justice and progress have earned him both praise and criticism. He remains a prominent figure in Pakistani politics, continuing to strive for a better future for his nation.
