John Legend, born as John Roger Stephens on December 28, 1978, is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Hailing from Springfield, Ohio, Legend’s passion for music developed at an early age, with him taking up the piano at just four years old. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Legend began his professional music career by working as a session musician, contributing to albums by renowned artists like Alicia Keys and Kanye West. However, it was his solo breakthrough that propelled him to stardom. In 2004, John Legend released his debut studio album, Get Lifted, which earned critical acclaim and commercial success. The album spawned hit singles such as Ordinary People and Used to Love U, showcasing his soulful voice and poignant songwriting skills. As a result, he received three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist.
