Portia De Rossi is an Australian-American actress and model, best known for her roles in popular television series such as Ally McBeal and Arrested Development. Born Amanda Lee Rogers on January 31, 1973, in Horsham, Australia, she adopted the name Portia De Rossi at the age of 15, inspired by the character Portia from William Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice. De Rossi began her career as a model in her teenage years, eventually transitioning to acting. She made her first television appearance in the Australian drama series Sirens in 1994. However, it was her portrayal of Nelle Porter in the American legal comedy-drama Ally McBeal that brought her international recognition and critical acclaim. De Rossi’s performance as the sharp and ambitious lawyer earned her numerous award nominations. Following the success of Ally McBeal, De Rossi continued to make a name for herself in the television industry.
