Biography
The xx is a British indie pop band formed in London in 2005. The band was initially composed of Romy Madley Croft (lead vocals and guitar), Oliver Sim (vocals and bass guitar), and Jamie Smith, also known as Jamie xx (beats, MPC sampler, and additional production). The xx first gained attention with the release of their self-titled debut album in 2009. The album was critically acclaimed for its minimalist and atmospheric sound, drawing influences from indie rock, electronic music, and R&B. It included hit singles like Crystalised and Islands and went on to win the prestigious Mercury Prize. Following the success of their debut, The xx released their second album, Coexist, in 2012. The album further solidified their unique sound, incorporating more electronic elements while maintaining their signature sparse and intimate style. It spawned popular tracks such as Angels and Chained. In 2017, the band released their highly anticipated third album, I See You. This record marked a departure from their previous work, incorporating more sample-based and upbeat production.
